The Jersey Electoral Authority (JEA) is preparing to reconvene for the Island’s elections next year and is looking for new members and a Chairperson with a passion for democracy. The JEA oversees the elections to the States Assembly, Jersey’s Parliament, ensuring that all eligible candidates and voters have the information they need to participate.

The date of the next election is due to be agreed by the States Assembly soon. The JEA needs new members and a chairperson who will work alongside the Judicial Greffier, Greffier of the States and a representative of the Parishes. This is a voluntary role and together you will oversee the nomination process, the conduct of candidates, and the review of election expenses. You will also review disputes and complaints and be part of the production of a report six months after the election, outlining any recommendations for improving the voting process.

Lisa Hart, Greffier of the States said: ‘As we approach the 2026 elections, it’s really important that we have those with a commitment to our community, overseeing the democratic process to ensure it’s working and is fair to all. We would like applications from a wide variety of Islanders so that we can represent everyone’s perspectives as part of this crucial Body, which will help ensure that Jersey’s elections are well run, and everyone has all the information they need to stand as a candidate or vote.

Any prospective candidates will need to work objectively and impartially, for an initial term of four years, which can be reviewed and extended to provide continuity.

For an informal discussion about joining the JEA, please contact Greffier of the States, Lisa Hart at l.hart@gov.je
